“So how would I do that? What would the first step of me telling them how I made a self-appraisal be? Probably having made a self-appraisal, wouldn’t it? I can’t talk to them about the spiritual awakening promised as the result of these steps unless I have experienced the spiritual awakening. That doesn’t mean you can’t experience a spiritual awakening not as a result of these steps and talk about it all you want, but don’t portray yourself as a 12-stepper then. Right? Does it make sense? I know people get radically delivered; I meet them all the time. But stay out of our 12-step room.”

Joe discusses how living the steps authentically is crucial to being able to effectively share the message with others. He highlights the importance of having had a true spiritual awakening to guide others through the steps with integrity.
