Randy's Story: From Punk Rock to Sobriety
“The beautiful thing about sobriety is that it works. I can see that for me, it would start with picking up a cigarette, because I'll tell you something, though I'll tell you something.”
Imagine growing up surrounded by the surf, skateboards, and the chaotic energy of punk rock. That's Randy's story, a native of Orange County, California. But beneath the sun-soaked lifestyle, Randy faced a whirlwind of anxiety and uncertainty, especially after his parents' divorce. By age 13, he found solace in drinking and smoking pot, trying to escape his inner turmoil. With an alcoholic father as his role model, daily drinking seemed normal, leading him down a destructive path.
It wasn’t until Randy hit rock bottom that he realized alcohol was the root of his problems. Embracing the 12-step program, he began his journey towards authenticity and healing. Sober since February 22nd, 1994, Randy is now a dedicated member of the 12-step community. In this heartfelt episode, Randy dedicates his story to his late friend, Billy Brown, sharing how sobriety has transformed his life.
