Scott L’s Love Meditation: Stones, Bubbles and a Higher Power
Episode Overview
- Use the love meditation to visualise love as a column flowing through you to people, situations and troubled parts of the planet.
- Turn shared prayers like the serenity prayer and the Lord’s Prayer from a rushed ritual into a slow, whispered conversation with God.
- As a sponsor, don’t wait for newcomers to call; take their number and ring them twice in three days to extend a genuine hand.
- For financial amends, arrive with about 10% of what you owe, promise less than you’re sure you can pay, and consistently give more.
- When dealing with grief or unresolved feelings toward someone who has died, write until you can cry, then alternate between writing and crying with someone safely holding space.
“I believe earth is a school and love is a subject. And everybody passes. Some just learn more than others.”
How do people find hope in the darkest times? At Saratoga Springfest 2026, Scott L offers a Sunday morning session that blends meditation, AA practice and gentle humour into something many in recovery will recognise as both comforting and challenging. Scott starts by asking everyone to “invite God to the meeting”, treating a higher power as a guest who only stays where he’s made welcome.
From there, he guides the group through his long-used “love meditation”, born in the late 1980s when a woman in his home group said she could feel prayers while in a coma.
The image is simple but vivid: love as a column of light flowing through him and out into the room, onto people in need, and even to “places on planet earth where there is fighting and anger.” You’ll be taken through a full guided imagery journey: bus rides, rose bushes, enchanted forests, coloured stones in a clear stream, waterfalls and “old folks” on a porch who represent his mentors.
Along the way, Scott ties this imagery back to sending love to mothers, fathers, sponsors, sponsees, newcomers, and even political figures “we like and don’t like.” His style stays light, even as he tackles heavy themes.
He talks about carrying clown noses and bubbles to turn traffic jams into “a party,” and then shifts into topics like financial amends, making things right with past partners, and the idea that “earth is a school and love is a subject.” He shares stories of death and what he calls “rebirth”, including the powerful moment of feeling a “magnificent euphoric feeling” at the exact time a sponsee died.
If you’re in recovery, new to meditation, or just curious how love, service and AA discipline can fit together, this gentle, slightly quirky session might be exactly what your Sunday morning needs.
