Surviving Big Events Sober: Vic and Hamish's Guide to Fun Without Alcohol
“Remember your why and really drum that into yourself. That can be hard for extroverts like you and I to let somebody else take over the laughs and the dancing and allow someone else to get the glory.”
Ever wondered how to tackle a massive event without a drink in hand? Vic and Hamish from 'Sober Awkward' have got you covered. In this episode, they dive into the anxiety-inducing world of attending big events sober. Think New Year’s Eve parties, festivals, and even Mardi Gras – all without the crutch of alcohol. Sounds daunting, right?
But Vic and Hamish are here to share their own hilarious and sometimes cringe-worthy experiences to show you it’s not only possible but can be enjoyable too. They kick things off by acknowledging the initial dread that comes with the thought of being the only sober person at a party. Vic recalls feeling out of place while everyone else got progressively more inebriated, while Hamish talks about the pressure to join in on the fun.
But don't worry, they’ve got plenty of tips to help you keep your cool and actually have a good time. One key takeaway is the importance of positive thinking and reframing your mindset. Instead of focusing on what you're missing out on, Vic and Hamish suggest concentrating on the positives of staying sober – like remembering the entire night and waking up without a hangover.
They also emphasize the power of having a 'why' – a personal reason that keeps you committed to your sober journey. Throughout the episode, they sprinkle in their trademark humor with stories that range from getting caught in awkward situations to almost blowing a finger off with a firework. These anecdotes not only entertain but also remind you that you're not alone in feeling awkward at times.
For those new to sobriety, Vic and Hamish offer practical advice on how to prepare for big events. From having a game plan to finding sober allies, they cover it all. They also stress the importance of building a supportive community, whether through online groups or in-person meetups. So if you’re gearing up for a big event and feeling a bit shaky about staying sober, give this episode a listen.
Vic and Hamish's blend of humor and honesty will leave you feeling more confident and ready to face any party without a drink in hand.
