Maggie Young: From Racism and Addiction to Redemption and Recovery

I get to be the little red bird today. But because I love you guys so much and I love ccar and what ccar does, and I love the work that we do, and it's all about recovery and all of that like, what a better opportunity to really again live my title of chief recovery officer, but also to spread my wings a bit and be able to be at a different level with ccar.

Imagine growing up in 1950s Alabama, facing the brutal reality of racism head-on. That was Maggie Young's childhood. Her family eventually moved to New England, but the struggle didn't end there. In an effort to cope with her new environment, Maggie turned to drugs and alcohol, a choice that led her down a perilous path involving street life and run-ins with the criminal justice system.

But Maggie's story doesn't end in despair; it transforms into a tale of redemption and recovery. With over 25 years of experience in addiction prevention and treatment, Maggie now serves as the Chief Recovery Officer at Liberation Programs Inc. Her journey is a testament to the power of community and the importance of having people who believe in you.

Through her work, she emphasizes that recovery isn't a one-size-fits-all journey and encourages exploring different pathways to find what works best for each individual. Maggie's story is one of hope, resilience, and the transformative power of recovery. Tune in to hear her inspiring journey and discover the strength that comes from finding your community.
