What do professional golf and addiction recovery have in common? For Kevin Minnick, quite a lot. As the SMART Recovery Regional Coordinator for Indiana, Kevin's journey is anything but ordinary. Starting out as a professional golfer, he used his earnings to fund a master's degree in counseling. But it was a chance encounter with an ad for SMART Recovery in an underground newspaper that truly set his path in motion.
Working in a chemical dependency unit, Kevin quickly saw the gaps in traditional 12-step programs. He challenged the status quo, advocating for a client-centered approach and multiple pathways to recovery. His role as a probation officer and clinical coordinator further cemented his belief in SMART Recovery's evidence-based methods. In this episode, Kevin shares his experiences and insights, emphasizing the power of self-empowering peer support.
