James N's Journey with Step One: Finding Hope in AA

I didn't know what I was describing to myself was alcoholism, that there's always been far more wrong with me than I drank too much, too often, and I couldn't see the need for the remaining steps. But that's what I was, and I was doing the best I could with the tools I had. What I do with them is up to me, and that's the beauty of alcoholics' knowledge. But the reality is, I am the best I've ever been because of alcoholics' knowledge.
James N from New Zealand brings a raw and heartfelt perspective to the power of Step One in this episode of Sober Cast. Having found sobriety in 1994, James shares his story at the UK Open Lounge Meeting, recorded just a few weeks ago. His journey is one of grappling with powerlessness and the eventual acceptance that paved the way for his recovery.
James doesn't hold back as he recounts his struggles, initial resistance to the AA program, and the pivotal moments that led him to seek help. He vividly describes the difference between merely having a drinking problem and dealing with full-blown alcoholism, shedding light on how AA helped him uncover deeper issues. The support from his AA community played a crucial role in his transformation, offering him the strength to continue his journey.
This episode is a touching reminder that no matter how bleak things may seem, there is always hope and a path to healing. For anyone battling addiction or looking for inspiration, James N's story is a beacon of hope.
