I think there's a lot of ways we have to help them. You know, this conversation, Alexis, I think is important, really hits home with me, first of all, because I had two sons that really struggled with substance use disorder beginning in middle school and into high school. And, you know, a lot of that was self-medication. And to be honest, even when I was in middle school and high school, I really struggled with self-identity and who am I, what's my role in the world. So the very notion that someone in a company is out there digging in at the college level to to engage with students around their well-being is a big deal.
Growing up, many young men are told to 'be tough', but what does that really mean for their mental health? In this episode of The Mayo Lab Podcast, David Magee sits down with Matthew Stefanko, the CEO and Founder of MANUAL, to tackle this very question. Matthew's mission is clear: break through the stigma surrounding men's mental health and offer real support.
He travels to college campuses nationwide, connecting with young men through social media and counseling services to help them become their best selves. David Magee brings his personal experience into the conversation, sharing insights from his own sons' battles with substance use disorder. Together, they explore the societal norms that shape men's emotional expression and the barriers that prevent them from seeking help.
