Step 4 Unpacked: Randy Mermell on Self-Honesty and Healing
“I'm here to sing the praises of four step and I really like what I'm hearing about consistent work on the four step. And for me, I look at dishonesty as old ideas. I'm telling myself about me or other people, beliefs and ideas, and I don't think the way I do it is the way to do it like at all, and I noticed in A Over The Years that there's ways of doing the four-step and people cling to it and I totally understand, because it helps us so much, you know.”
Ever wondered how self-honesty can pave the way to recovery? In this episode of 'Love Your Life', Randy Mermell dives into the first part of Step 4, shedding light on the importance of looking inward with brutal honesty. He kicks things off with a calming prayer and meditation, inviting listeners to quiet their inner critics. Randy underscores that emotional pain often fuels addiction and that addressing this pain is crucial for healing.
He passionately talks about the role of a higher power and human support in navigating the fourth step, which involves categorizing resentments and understanding the roots of anger. Drawing from his own experiences, Randy emphasizes the necessity of consistent effort in this process. He also touches on how dishonesty and old beliefs can hinder recovery, and how trauma plays a significant role in addiction. Wrapping up, Randy discusses the tenth step and its daily application in maintaining sobriety.
This episode is a treasure trove of insights for anyone on the path to recovery, offering practical advice and heartfelt encouragement.
