Since getting sober, Dean's life has completely turned around and things have transpired in his life beyond his wildest dreams. Such a great guy, really open-minded, a very common story of drinking heavily in high school and college, and then alcoholism creeping up on him. I love that he was able to show up for his daughter in her time of need, and his sobriety was able to make such a difference in her life.
Dean Anderson's journey from a small town outside Boston to a high-flying sales career is anything but ordinary. Growing up in an environment where drinking was rare, Dean discovered alcohol at 13 and quickly fell in love with it. His intense drinking habits were normalized by his friends and surroundings, making it hard for him to see the danger signs. It wasn't until college that he realized not everyone drank like he did.
Moving away from home only made things worse. By his mid-30s, Dean was drinking all day, blacking out multiple times, and facing severe consequences. He lost custody of his children, his home, and his job was hanging by a thread. A doctor's warning that he had only nine months to live if he continued on this path was a wake-up call, but it was his daughter's need for him to regain custody that truly sparked change.
In this episode of 'The Courage to Change: A Recovery Podcast', Dean opens up about his struggle with alcoholism, the impact on his career and personal life, and the pivotal moments that led him to seek help. Today, Dean dedicates his life to serving others, showing that recovery is possible even in the face of immense pressure and personal turmoil. His story is a testament to the power of change and offers hope to anyone facing similar battles.
