I think there's a lot of fear around admitting to having an addiction problem while being a nurse, because number one, you don't want people thinking you've been under substances while on the job.
Stephanie was the epitome of a high achiever, always keeping her life meticulously in order to avoid unwanted attention. But beneath the polished exterior, she struggled immensely, especially after her father's death when she was just 16. That's when her heavy drinking began, and she found herself gravitating towards others who were also struggling.
Despite the chaos inside, Stephanie excelled in her nursing career, providing impeccable care to her patients while using alcohol as a coping mechanism for the daily stress and pain she faced. The pandemic only exacerbated her struggles, pushing her drinking to new extremes. It wasn't until the cracks in her facade became too big to ignore that she sought help. Now, Stephanie has found a supportive community and the coping skills she needs to thrive.
In this episode of 'The Courage to Change: A Recovery Podcast', Stephanie opens up about the fears and stigma of admitting addiction as a nurse, and how it impacted her professional and personal life. She sheds light on the cultural influences that fueled her addiction and the lack of effective coping mechanisms available. Her story is a powerful testament to the importance of seeking support and not letting fear dictate your journey.
Stephanie also highlights the resources offered by the Lion Rock Recovery community, which played a crucial role in her healing process. Tune in to hear Stephanie's inspiring journey and discover how she turned her life around, offering hope and encouragement to anyone facing similar struggles.
