Max Crawford-Smith on Addiction, Heartbreak, and Healing

In sobriety I've been able to kind of shed that obsessive thinking about comparing myself to other people and to just sort of allow myself to be the version that I want to be, without having the fear that it's not right or I'm not going to fit in or people aren't going to like me, and I just kind of enjoy myself.
Ever wondered how someone navigates the stormy seas of addiction and comes out stronger on the other side? In this episode of 'Behind The Smile', Ash Butterss invites her ex-husband and close friend, Max Crawford-Smith, to share his raw and unfiltered journey through addiction and recovery. Max doesn't shy away from discussing his battles with substances like marijuana, cocaine, and alcohol, and how these struggles deeply impacted his relationships, including his marriage to Ash.
Their candid conversation touches on the pain of their breakup, but also highlights the resilience and hope that followed. Max opens up about his coping strategies, such as skiing and hiking, which provided him with a much-needed escape and a way to manage stress and grief. He also talks about the pivotal role therapy played in his recovery, helping him to let go of control and embrace support from others.
Through his story, Max has found freedom in sobriety and emphasizes the importance of self-care and self-acceptance. This episode is a heartfelt testament to the power of vulnerability and the possibility of new beginnings. Whether you're facing similar challenges or simply curious about the recovery journey, this conversation offers a beacon of hope and practical insights.
