Annie Grace: Redefining Sobriety and the Grey Area of Addiction

I believe that addiction is definitely a continuum and you can get to a point, no doubt in my mind, because you know, I feel like I've reached that point with other addictions, where you just see something and the craving is so intense and it's out of your control and your brain actually changes, where you see a bottle of wine and that dopamine releases and that cravings on, and it's the same as having, you know, drink a few glasses and then have that dopamine release.

Ever wondered what it takes to change your relationship with alcohol? In this episode, Laura McKowen and Holly Whitaker sit down with Annie Grace, the author of 'This Naked Mind', to discuss her unique journey to sobriety. Unlike many, Annie's path wasn't straightforward. As a successful professional, she found herself grappling with drinking habits that didn't fit the traditional 'addict' label.

This led her to write a book that challenges conventional views on addiction and offers a fresh perspective on controlling alcohol consumption. The conversation gets heated as they tackle controversial topics like the distinction between 'normal' drinkers and 'addicts' and the loaded term 'alcoholic'. Annie shares her hopes for a future where the grey areas of addiction are acknowledged and addressed openly. Holly and Annie also bond over their mutual admiration, adding a touch of humor to the discussion.

This episode is a must-listen for anyone questioning their drinking habits or seeking a new way to think about sobriety.
