Recovery Matters! Podcast
CCAR ‘Department of Corrections Recovery Coach’ Jennifer Reed joins us this week on the Recovery Matters podcast! Her first introduction to substances came at the age of 5 when she guzzled an entire beer 🍺 which was given to her by a family member. In high school, where (side note) she had skipped school with over 100 people 🚶♀️🚶🚶🏻♀️🚶🏻🚶🏽♀️🚶🏾(which has to be a world record of some sort), she experimented with some additional substances. To support her habits, she turned to theft which eventually landed her in jail 🚔 🎧Hear more of Jennifer’s story by listening to this weeks all new audio podcast For more information on CCAR, visit https://www.ccar.us ----Across the Web---- ✉️ Donate: https://www.ccar.us/ccar-gift-shop 🗣Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CCAR4Recovery 📸Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ccar4recovery 🐦Twitter: https://twitter.com/ccar4recover

Jennifer Reed: From Early Substance Use to Empowering Others in Recovery
“I just use that to just know that I never want to go back and I'm like I don't want to go back to that place today. So, even though it sucked, you know, I just learned from it and I'm grateful for that.”
Imagine taking your first sip of alcohol at just five years old. That was Jennifer Reed's reality, and it set the stage for a tumultuous journey through addiction. In this episode of the 'Recovery Matters! Podcast', Jennifer, now a Recovery Coach with CCAR's Department of Corrections, opens up about her life story. From experimenting with substances in high school to resorting to theft to support her habits, Jennifer's path led her to imprisonment. But that's not where her story ends.
Jennifer talks candidly about how she turned her life around, thanks in part to the support she found through CCAR. She dives into the challenges and rewards of coaching others in the corrections system, offering a unique perspective on recovery from within the walls of a prison. Jennifer also touches on the role of spirituality in her healing process and the impact of the opioid crisis on families and individuals.
Her insights into developing coping skills and staying connected are both practical and inspiring. If you're looking for a story that embodies resilience and the transformative power of hope, this episode is a must-listen.
