I used to use drinking to meter out time... calculating how much time I had before commitments or before I could pass out and making sure that I had enough booze to fill that time and factoring the bottle shop closing time against how many drinks I had left, etc. Because of overwhelming anxiety, it was useful to have these time and booze equations to focus on rather than letting my thoughts go to any of the problems I had at the time. Man, so messed up.
