Hugo Schwyzer: A Journey Through Mental Health and Masculinity

For me, being masculine is about leading a life of service. You know, there is this power that women's bodies have that we don't have. Or we don't bite the head off like in my dad's way of like just a really cutting remark. And to be not just a gentleman but a gentle man, and a gentle man who brings peace into the world and does his best to start with peace with himself, that's what it means to be masculine to me.

Dr. Hugo Schwyzer has a story that will resonate with anyone who's faced their own mental health challenges. With a background in history and gender studies, Hugo has spent decades teaching at Pasadena City College. But it's his personal battles with mental health that take center stage in this episode of 'Time Out For Mental Health'. Hugo opens up about his struggles with alcohol and drug abuse, personality disorders, and bipolar depression.

His candid discussion serves as a poignant reminder that seeking help is crucial and that recovery is an ongoing journey. He also touches on the complexities of masculinity, the significance of living a life of service, and the power of being gentle. This episode offers a blend of inspiration and practical advice for anyone grappling with similar issues.
