Building a better relationship with food. I have a client that has a couple of them actually that have some very mixed feelings, obviously, about their relationship with food. A lot of times, for example, if they grew up in a rural area, or they had a grandparent, and there was a lot of food that was on the table. And yet at the time, they give you the extra food. Shame, yeah. And we'll be learning more of this working closely with you here in our practice, which I'm excited about.
Ever thought about how what you eat could be affecting your mental health? In this episode of 'Through a Therapist's Eyes', host Chris Gazdik welcomes back Cyrilla Purnell to dive deep into the world of nutrition therapy and dietetic services. Cyrilla, now joining Chris at his practice, brings her expertise in public health and nutrition to the table, aiming to help clients achieve their mental and physical health goals through mindful eating practices.
The conversation kicks off with a focus on how our relationship with food can significantly impact our mental well-being. Chris and Cyrilla discuss the new addition of dietetic services to Metrolina Psychotherapy Associates and highlight Cyrilla's impressive credentials. They explore how nutrition forms a critical foundation for overall health, emphasizing the importance of understanding portion control, reading food labels, and making sustainable changes. Cyrilla advocates for body positivity and stresses the significance of healthy aging.
She believes in fostering a joyful relationship with food, supporting clients to become natural eaters through self-acceptance and balanced, individualized approaches. The episode also delves into the role of nutrients in mental health treatment, explaining how they affect mood and brain function. One of the standout moments is when Cyrilla talks about her grocery store tours, where she educates clients on making informed food choices.
The episode wraps up with an engaging discussion on the emotional and physical dynamics of eating, addressing issues like compulsive behaviors and disordered eating. Listeners will find this episode both enlightening and practical, offering valuable insights into how nutrition therapy can be a transformative tool for mental and physical well-being.
