- Knowing scripture is not the same as having a genuine, loving relationship with God.
- It’s healthy to set limits at work and stop trying to be everyone’s healer or counsellor.

- Breaking long-standing cycles often starts with personal ownership and a willingness to repent and change direction.
“"Wisdom can revise your life."”
What can we learn from those who have battled addiction, burnout, and heartbreak while clinging to faith? This Soul Retreat reflection follows host Yuri Huntington as she reads from her 2023 journal and shares how scripture, therapy, and honest self-reflection helped her move from hurt to healing. You’ll hear Yuri unpack a tough work situation where she realised she was silently “should-ing” on a colleague who knew a lot of scripture but didn’t seem to show Christlike character.
That moment led her to redraw boundaries at work: do the job she’s paid to do, stop trying to rescue everyone, and protect her mental health. Grief sits at the centre of this conversation too, as Yuri walks through the loss of her nephew and the way a Spirit-led, licensed Christian therapist supported her. She stresses that some struggles need more than church chats and that it’s wise to ask a counsellor clearly about their beliefs.
As she puts it, “It is very, very beneficial to seek out a licensed professional when you're going through a very hard loss.” A powerful theme is ownership. Yuri describes blaming God for leaving her in a spiritually abusive church until Holy Spirit, through her therapist, simply said: “Repent.” Taking responsibility for staying longer than she should have did more to free her than any external change. There’s also a strong thread on wisdom and rest.
A 21-day journey through Proverbs helped her show up to a stressful job without “vomiting out” her emotions, and she keeps repeating the line, “Wisdom can revise your life.” She also challenges overachievers to treat rest as a gift, not a weakness. For anyone in recovery, ministry, or just feeling stuck in a long, painful cycle, this episode offers gentle challenge, biblical honesty, and very human humour.
Where might you need to rest, seek help, or finally take ownership so your story can shift?
