From Multi-Millionaire to Barefoot Truth-Seeker: Rethinking Success with Vishrant

Episode Overview

  • Material success without heart left Vishrant feeling spiritually bankrupt, prompting him to give away his multi-million-pound publishing business.
  • A near-death experience at sea, surrounded by sharks, led to an overwhelming feeling of love that changed his direction in life.
  • Four years walking barefoot around Australia focused him on service and giving, which he describes as "the way of the heart."
  • He teaches that self-acceptance removes low self-worth and victim thinking, making it easier to face life’s challenges with confidence.
  • His practical advice: accept life as it is, learn to let things go, and recognise that you are in charge of your own reality.
If you want to have a happy life, accept life as it is… You are in charge of your reality.

What remarkable journeys have people faced head-on against addiction? This conversation between host Vicky Midwood and guest Vishrant turns the usual idea of success completely on its head. By his late twenties, Vishrant had built a multi-million-pound publishing business from scratch, with 30 salespeople, multiple offices and enough wealth to retire at 28. Yet a terrifying night at sea changed everything.

After 18 hours in cold, cyclone-hit water, circled by hammerhead sharks, he was convinced both he and his companion were going to die. In that moment he felt "this amazing love" everywhere – an experience that later pushed him to question the armour he’d built around himself as a businessman. On retreat in Italy, he realised that armour was blocking his heart.

Rather than sell up, he "walked in and gave everyone who worked for me my business" and then took off his shoes and walked barefoot around Australia for four years.

During that time he focused on service – mowing lawns, washing dishes and cars, running free massage groups – and says, "I realized that the way of the heart is to give instead of being a taker." He then trained as a naturopath and psychotherapist, ran men’s groups, raised two children, and eventually became a Buddhist teacher holding satsang, or "association with truth", where he helps people raise their consciousness to reduce suffering.

His core message is simple and direct: "If you want to have a happy life, accept life as it is… You are in charge of your reality." This episode is ideal if you’re questioning what success really means, feeling stuck in old identities, or curious how someone moves from shark-like business mentality to a life centred on love, truth and service. Could rethinking your own idea of success be the first step towards a more peaceful, heart-led life?
